Apple is looking to increase its presence in the Android ecosystem, with its own store.
Apple is looking for new ways to earn back money that could help it fund its $200 billion acquisition of rival Android maker Google.
The tech giant’s $200-billion purchase of Google for $2.85 billion last month marks Apple’s biggest acquisition to date.
The Apple Store, a brand new Apple store in a strip mall near San Francisco’s Mission Bay, is the company’s first major foray into the Android mobile ecosystem.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has said the Apple Store is a way to show Android that the tech giant is more than just a phone vendor.
“We’re not just selling phones,” Cook said in a statement.
“We’re creating a marketplace for people to sell things.”
Apple also announced that the Apple-branded Android TV set will soon be available to buy, and that a free Apple TV remote will soon become available.
The company also launched a new Apple TV app.
Apple has made several announcements about its future in the smartphone space, including its upcoming iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
